Civilized & Uncivilized

Before we came up to the last exercise my professor showed us the picture of a indigenous and an american. The american is wearing coat and tie while the indigenous man is wearing only a piece of cloth. During the American Regime, American taught us what are the right and wrong of their country and until now it is all included in our daily lives. They said what are they doing is civilized and for the Filipinos it is not. Before the Spanish came to us, we already have our traditions and beliefs. So as the time passed by, this tradition and beliefs became values and conduct that we are treasuring as of the moment.

These three photos signifies the the daily routine inside and outside our home.
When we were riding on a jeep, a stranger who will sneeze without covering its mouth in inappropriate. It was disturbing and it can be pass from person to person.
The second picture was I (on the left) has headset while someone is talking. It is so much uncivilized and inappropriate.

This last picture shows, the man smoking in front of a person. The cigaretter contains many toxins and it may cause a lot to those who will in hale it. Most especially if a stranger will get your cigarette and slap it on your face! :)

Indie Film: Rigodon

I really had a hard time looking for the perfect Indie Film to watch. Aside from youtube and other sites, when I enter Indie Films in the search bar, the search results are always man and woman naked and stuffs. I would like something touchy but not a lousy movie in the first part. Rigodon was the first movie I have watched,

it tells about Sarah (Yam Concepcion) is recovering from a painful breakup when she meets would-be artista Riki (John James Uy). Riki offers her some kindness, and she soon falls for him. The two begin a passionate sexual relationship. But unbeknownst to Sarah, Riki is already married to Regine (Max Eigenmann). The movie shifts focus between the three characters. As Sarah grows more and more enamored with her new beau, Regine grows suspicious of her husband. Meanwhile, Riki struggles to keep his lies straight as his career and his life just fall apart.

My classmate said, Rigodon in only about sex, so I have to replace it. I watched Mayohan and any other non-sexual movies but I can't see moral lesson and interesting movies with them. So my last choice is Rigodon.

Film Analysis:

The elements in this movie based on the WOTL (Word of the Lourd), are the following:

1st part: It was directed and story by Erik Matti. The story is good and it relates the Filipino community nowadays most especially for the teenagers. The camera is unsteady and the focus for every scene in this movie is not that good. There are circumstances that there are no lines are to be delivered but only music and some sort of movements. The voice overpower by music. The budget is I guess not that tight for this movie because the materials used and their who characters played their role. Also, there are limited characters for this movie. The audio mixing is not the good.

2nd part: On the second part, there was a girl who was madly in love with the guy he met in the club. Then without knowing the background and history of that guy, they had their one night stand. After that, they used to see each other and keep doing that all over again. There this guy, who has secret or maybe trying to seduce this girl just to have money. He was broke and has a family. The guy was before a model who won 4th placer at a starfactor. Due to his, age and wrong pronunciation of tagalog terms he was not given any project.

Last part: For the last part, there is a subtitle in the film, in English. The lines are well coordinated with the subtitle. Also, in the last part f Rigodon, there was taong-grasa appeared outside the car of the guy and his wife saying "Andito ka lang pala, Kanina ka pa hinahanap". The actor to this film was not that good in acting but he has nice body and it says it all. Also he was less known but I guess he was experienced in making indie films not comparing to Coco Martin. He looks good in this kind of film.

Essay 2

Our professor asked us to go to Pamanang Bedista and choose what artwork struck us most. There are many artworks to choose from, there were different meaning, style, form and tools on how the artwork will be meaningful. There were artwork from generations to generations, came from different genre and historical background of the artwork. So I chose this one. (With my reflection, lol)

When I saw this piece, I remembered Sisa from the novel of Jose Rizal. Since Sisa is also a victim of Spaniards colonization as where she was looking for their children Basilio and Crispin.  I don't know, its just came out and see when and who will make this piece of art. It was Unknown.
The title and the date are unknown. Anyways, I cannot believe that it was made by woodcut print and even on a parchment paper. For me, it looks like a free hand drawing. Aside from that, the artwork looks a mother carrying her child with the man on her back is holding a mallet. If I could only see the face of that woman, she maybe afraid, sad and tortured by that man. My other analysis is that, maybe the woman and the man in her back is her husband. She is a victim of abuse and harassment. Its like, she wants to runaway with her child and leave the reality. It was very related to the woman nowadays, that's why we have Gabriela to protect our rights. They tend to enter into a lifetime commitment though they were too young.

Essay 1: Woman with a Pearl Necklace in a Loge

As I was browsing artwork from googleartproject.com, this artwork made by Mary Cassatt name Woman with Pearl Necklace strike me a lot.

This artwork was similar to Johannes Vermeer’s seventeenth-century Northern European painting named as Woman with a Pearl Necklace in the period of Dutch Golden Age. I chose this artwork because of its meaning. I believed that woman before experienced oppression and we were superior by men. In this artwork, Mary Cassatt’s used light colors like flesh, orange and other colors which are very pleasing to eyes.  The woman is wearing pearl necklace, with eloquent dress, white gloves, and fan which represents her social status.

Also, woman portrayed as the subject of this artwork which I admire most. Woman is rarely became a subject to a piece of artwork during those times. It also represents that this woman was intelligent, elegant, independent, with class, sophisticated and stunning. Female became uplift to male by showing the characteristics and attitude of the female on this artwork. It reflects the interests and views of the female’s role to the society. Also, this painting also has the interpretation of the feminism with power and sophistication. This artwork is the inspiration of the young generation.

Behind Woman with Pearl Necklace

Mary Cassatt Self-Portrait
An independent and determined American female artist, Mary Cassatt was constantly faced with the oppression of societal restrictions on females as she pursued her dream career as a painter. But Mary's strong and steady spirit kept her dreams in sight as she successfully used her experiences and views as a woman in the 19th Century American and European societies to convey a true and believable reality through her paintings.

Cassatt uses a particularly unique technique established by Degas to portray the theater setting as large and spacious. She positioned her subject in front of a mirror in order to depict the theater and other patrons behind the woman. Notice, Lydia is watching the show in one direction whereas the other spectators are viewing the performance in the opposite direction. Though it provides an image of a large and full theater behind the woman, it also “refutes the illusion of deep space by reminding us that we are looking at a flat, if reflective, surface just behind the figure” (Pollock, 146).

Self - Portrait

My Self-Portrait

That was one of my favorite activities. We made a self-portrait picture with the minds and emotions we have and we want to be. Our professor let our self-portrait picture critique by random people around San Beda. And the self-portraits are:

From left is Me, the center top is Chezka, the center center is Erika, the center bottom is Jake and the right is Pasi

Each of us has different attitude and personality on how our self-portrait pictures capture the mind and attitude of our viewers. Each has different talents and views our daily life. The one made by Erika for herself reflects on how she enjoys life with nature. Her posing collides with the background with very good attitude. To Cheska’s work, we were similar, closed eyes but the only difference is that she describes herself with the text above to his head. Her picture was like a teenager with pleasing background. To Pasi, aside from black and white color, the mosquito net like captured me with his hands taking it off. His work symbolizes freedom. For Jake, it is collage of three places and himself from child up to present

Ryan Haw was the one who critique my artwork. He says that aside from black and white color effect and the formation of my eyes and lips were dissonant. Mostly, people will smile with their eyes are open but in my picture it is not. He said that I may be dreaming. Yes, that was my intention. I am a dreamer! Dreams are high, enough for me to be the best that I can be.

Metro Manila Film Festival

Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy Movie

My professor asked us to watch any Metro Manila Film Festival Movie this end of 2013. I watched with my college friends, Pasi and Jessa, at SM Megamall around 4.30 in the afternoon. I chose Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy starring Vice Ganda, Maricel Soriano and Joey Marquez.

Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy 2013 is a Filipino Movie that is all about the story of Filipino siblings who happened to be quadruplets.  Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy is starred by Vice Ganda himself – the most popular host of It’s Showtime and a world class comedian.  This Pinoy Movie is going to be shown in all cinemas in the Philippines on Christmas Day, December 25, 2013.  Join us in watching this one of the most hilarious Pinoy Movies ever made to make your Christmas Season truly special and memorable. Honestly, I chose this movie because it was Vice Ganda, to relieve my stress and also I know that Filipinos are good in making comedy movies. I know that this movie was about the quadruplets played by Vice Ganda which the girl and boy grew in States while the gay and lesbian grew with their mother. The story tells about on how their paths cross in an unexpected incidence. The girl, named Girly and the gay, named Mark met where Girly had been mistakenly arrested for shoplifting inside the mall. Joey Marquez, their daddy confirmed that they were not twins but quadruplets made their life miserable. As they went back to the Philippines and look for their mother together with their siblings and for the liver transplant of the boy named Peter. Everything was not easy for them since they were grown up separately.

Sound is very important to the film viewing. It emphasizes the emotions and tone of the person who is talking. It gives the viewer a hint if the person is sad, happy, overwhelm and the like. It gives life to the show and somehow it gives clearer insight to the viewer on how they could take character’s line.

In this film, Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy, the characters deliver their lines very well. I didn’t hear any interruption and unclear pronunciation from the characters. The quality of the sound of the film in so clear, and the hidden microphone though the camera is near didn’t interrupt the sounds though they said many of the cameras have to be away from the microphone because it will be crash or voice over. The motion of this movie is fine. I didn’t even notice that Vice Ganda is only one and the role he played was four namely as Girlie, Peter, Mark and Panying. Aside from that, the motion of main characters is firm and they are coordinated to the tunes/music of the scene. Vice Ganda in row acting the same faces make the editor much harder to edit every single frame they have. The scenes are well coordinated also with the characters.
The lightning of this movie is fine also. It is not that bright and it is not the dim. All scenes have shown attractive and pleasing to viewer’s eye. All colors wear by characters were lively and it shows that this movie is really a comedy and it will make you laugh hard. They always wear light colors that very soothing to eyes. Every scene never got lousy or bored. But most important is, I enjoyed watching with my college buddies!

Selfie! ;)
